Privacy and Confidetiality

Because new media is such a recent development and exist in the rather uncharted phenomenon of  the world wide web a intangible entity of cyber space, the  traditional concept of privacy and confidentiality although desirable continually seem to present a insurmountable standard to be obtained. This I believe is caused in part by the universality of the web and new media that defy borders and  the laws that govern them. the concept privacy and confidentiality  resembles rather closely positive theory on what SHOULD be but in actually what IS regardless of where you live with the right technology and smarts you don't have to leave your living room to hijack someones identity and personal information. ultimately the concept of privacy and confidentiality as it pertains to new media is illusory.

Advice

There are many uses for the integration of new media into college administration processes and although many colleges have already taken the initiative to use new media they have not really fully utilized certain aspects of new media such as social networking sites. Social networks like twitter, facebook, instagram and youtube are ripe with opportunity for the college to connect with its student body. This sites provides an easy medium for which the college may mass communicate with is current students about events or important changes in policy and academic curriculum, and also act as marketing mechanism for future attendees. social networking captivates and a large majority of people spend a significant amount of time in these online social spaces. with and already captured audience the college stands to benefit tremendously from the use of this type of new media.
